GTA IV is unreadable. What should I do to fix this issue?

Yes I am aware that there are currently other people addressing this issue.

But there are two issues, one is freezing, which is more common with the PS3. And the other is the "unreadable disk error" message.

I have the unreadable error. The first disk I had worked up untill "The Master and the Molotov" mission. After that it would show the message, and it would return me to the dashboard. So I got frusterated and went back to Gamestop. They gave me a new disk which was amazing. I was thinking they were not going to because it was a new game, and they would be out of stock. The guy said it was because the disk was scratched, even though it only had the minor ones. Once I got back home, I put the disk in and it allowed me to finish that mission, then it stopped working. I took it out and there was about a centimeter scratch. I know its not the 360 because the drive plays other games and movies. So far GTA IV is a let down to me. So what should I do?

Unfortunately 360 Disc drives are known to occasionally misread the discs or cause scratches on them. Usually it's after alot of usage. If the disc was scratched, it was scratched by the laser, and depending on where on the disc the needed data is, the movement of the laser can be relatively sporadic.

All-in-all, sounds like your drive is going out. Be careful, as this could eventually damage other games.
