Have the truly “next gen” games been announced or released for playstation 3?

I am looking to get a PS3 (possibly) soon, especially with the release of Grand Theft Auto 4. However, everything I've read so far says that GTA4 plays more poorly on the ps3 than on the xbox 360. Also, it says that the graphics on the 360 are superior to the ps3.

The main reason I want a ps3 is because it was supposed to be even better graphically and hardware-wise than the 360. But now, even so long after the ps3's release, it lags behind in games and even in graphics(?!).

So, I want to know if there are any games currently on the ps3 that are truly "next gen" and not just "good looking". Or, alternatively, have any games been announced that will truly take the ps3 experience to the next level (i know about grand turismo.. any others?)

(the inclusion of a blu ray player has a minimal or zero effect on my decision as to buying a ps3 vs a 360).

Thanks!

Not true about the PS3. I think it was IGN that said that the PS3 version was slightly better looking than the 360 version. It also said that the PS3 version loaded faster than the 360 version because of the PS3's hard drive. The online play is better on the 360 than the PS3 since people are reporting that they're having problems getting online for multiplayer.

Metal Gear Solid 4 should really do the PS3 justice. Early reports are that the game looks even better than GTA IV. The game takes up a whopping 50 gb. Kojima said that 50 gb wasn't enough for him so he had to cut down some features.

The one game that everyone seems to be talking about is Killzone 2. If you seen the first trailer, it looks great, but there are rumors that the footage may not be in game footage, sort of what Sony did with the first Killzone. Instead of using in-game footage, it was using CGI. Anyway, supposedly the 2nd trailer is actual in-game footage.

Interesting question, and I see your point. I'm thinking that it's probably more expensive to engineer and develop games that take full advantage of the PS3's capability. The Wii is experiencing a similar problem on a different scale…..because the PS2 is still alive and kicking, developers just do a joint PS2/Wii release without upgrading the graphics for the Wii versions of these games. Why bother to take the time shining it up? The Wii really gets an unearned reputation for bad graphics; it's really quite capable of great graphics (look at Metroid Prime 3).

So, it seems to me that the developers don't want to waste their time making two versions of a game that's going to be released on PS3 and 360. If the PS3 gets more exclusive games, you'll probably see more games that take advantage of the hardware. Metal Gear Solid 4 looks pretty promising so far.

This is just my opinion here.
