HDTV and PS3 resolutions?

I am new in the TV world so ok, here it goes, I have a PS3 now with GTA 4. I am planning on buying a HDTV with the resolution of 1080p. If I buy games that run on 720p and lower. Can, I still play it on my TV? Do I have to go to the PS3’s display settings thing, and put a check mark on all the resolution options? PLEASE HELP.

If you mean to keep playing on your current standard TV, the lowest resolution on PS3 is 720p, so it’s not gonna look much different of what you have now. It’s a waist of potential if you’re using it on a standard TV with RCA/component cables. You need a HDTV and HDMI cables to milk the best out of your blu-ray PS3.

About the HDTV, you can either go to display settings and pick any resolution you want for your TV on the PS3 menu (as long as your HDTV supports them), or you can get the PS3 to scan your HDTV for you and pick the best one that fits your screen. Once you’ve picked it, it will stay in that resolution no matter what resolution the game is.

Don’t forget the HDMI cables!. Enjoy!
