I am considering getting Grand Theft Auto 4 (for PS3) soon, but there is one thing preventing me from making a final decision. I did some research on glitches and things like that and found many instances where people uncovered a freezing problem that seemed to have pretty bad effects, and seemed to happen on both consoles. For some people it seemed like the game would freeze occasionally, while for others their console would not read discs at all. All the things I have read say that a patch is being worked on, but since the game came out in April and it's now December, that information might be a little bit dated. Is there a patch out yet? How often does this problem occur and what exactly happens to your console because of it? The game looks incredible, I just don't want to spend a lot of money on a PS3 only to have it messed up by a glitch in a game.

The version I would get would be for the PS3, but Xbox 360 owners are more than welcome to answer if they wish.
My PS3 is the older 80GB model with flash card readers and 4 USB ports. It still has the stock hard drive.
