Is GTA IV a disappointment because the X-Box held it back?

Did the X-Box's lack of a hard drive prevent Rockstar from making the game as good as it could have been if it were exclusively for the PS3. If that's the case, that really pisses me off. The GTA series made a name for itself on the PS2, and the people who stayed loyal to Sony and bought a PS3 seem to be getting screwed. God, I hate Microsoft. How can so many people feel good about giving their money to such an evil corporation?

You are really wrong. Xbox Live is coming out with download packs for GTA4 to add 10+ hours per pack to the storyline and more maps, weapons and cars! :D That's exclusive to the 360. PS3 sucks.

Absolutely not. Why is Microsoft evil, they are made in America and I like to see American companies thrive. Just because they buy companies and try to make money doesn't make them evil. Take Two did do everything they attended to do to make this game the way they wanted. Xbox did not hold the game back and even if they wanted to add more to the game they could have just released the 360 with less content and then just made downloads for it to make up for the lack of disc space.

If anything the PS3 held the game back. The PS3 hardware is a lot harder to work with then any other consoles(which obviously makes the game take longer to make). Like on all of the showings of the game and all of the demos that the video game magazines played were on the 360 version. Why would that be, maybe because it was the better version perhaps?

GTA IV is a disappointment? Since when?

This question stinks of Sony Fanboy-ism.

@Sentry - I understand in your haste to vomit forth your post you got me and bfg15000 confused. It happens when you start spewing unsubstantiated statements. It is okay. Take a deep breath. I linked to Metacritic to back up my first statement which was "GTA IV is a disappointment? Since when?" Obviously, the critics,… meta-ly (is that even a word?) have agreed that GTA IV is not a disappointment.

It is a very similar sentiment to "First of all, GTA IV is not a disappointment."

Obviously, I don't need to source my second statement. The person asking the question has proved their own bias.

First of all, GTA IV is not a disappointment.

But yes, the more platforms a game goes on, the more sacrifices have to be made, therefore sometimes degrading the quality.

It is not because of the hard drive, or even the disc space on the 360. But more so everything in general.

But IV had to launch early in the next gen battle, therefore they had to make it multiplatform so they can profit off of it more, and because they are still new the PS3 so they would not be able to take advantage of it as much.

Plus, Microsoft paid Rockstar for the 360 to have the game day one as well.

The next GTA will most likely be exclusive though.

@ bfg15000: Yes, which Microsoft paid 50 million dollars to have exclusively on their platform. And no, it won't include no cars or weapons, just new missions and storyline. And PS3 will get its own DLC as well. Oh, and the links you sourced, PS3 has a meta critic of 99, 360 is 98, what are you trying to point out?

@ Killer Day: No, they could not have put more content in the PS3 version if they wanted to, or else the deal with MS would be changed, and the press would all go crazy and 360 owners would protest and whatnot. Rockstar did not want to step into the console war like that.

I don't believe that the Xbox held anything back–I read that the only difference between the two versions is that the PS3 has a little better contrast in the dark tones. The only problem that Rockstar had was trying to fit the game onto one Xbox disc, but the Xbox version was ready long before the PS3 one was. I've been a loyal Sony fan as well, but switched to Xbox due to the price difference in systems. I've been playing GTA IV and haven't been disapointed yet. And hey, if you still feel let down, then just take pride in the fact that the Xboxers don't get Metal Gear Soild 4 (now that hurts me!).

The 360 version is what they based the PS3 version off of when they were in development. The PS3 is very difficult for game programmers to work with so when they build a mulitplatform game they make one version then transfer it to the other systems. Almost all devlopers use the 360 as the first model.
