On Xbox Live IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN?
On Xbox Live there is the option to buy Grand Theft Auto 4: The Ballad of Gay Tony (GTA4: TBOGT).
If I buy TBOGT online, NOT the disc from a store, can I play free mode with my friends online?
I DON’T have the original GTA4, but I want to get it without paying too much. So can I buy it on Xbox Live and play free mode?

NO you either need the GTA:IV disk or the GTA:Episodes from Liberty City disk
The Ballad of Gay Tony is an expansion pack, not a stand-alone game. You will need the full version of GTA 4 to use the expansion pack.
Simply put: no.
Get Episodes From Liberty City.
But you should play IV first.
Nope, you need to have the original game to play an add-on.
