PS3 Vs Xbox 360 for non Typical gamer?
The question is of course, PS3 or Xbox 360.
I already got a Nintendo Wii which I really like. Problem is, the online play is so full of hackers I hate playing it online.
I’m not much into any first person shooter games, so halo, gears, etc are not a selling point for me at all. I like games more like Rune Factory, Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, but also like GTA series and Elder Scrolls Series. RPGs are big for me too. As you can see though, I am not your "Typicial" player.
I use Wireless Internet so have to use the Adapter for Xbox 360 (Which will make it more expensive than PS3 with 15 percent off coupon I got from dell). Don’t have a laptop to bridge it either so have to buy the over priced thing.
Basically what I want from the system is 3 things.
1. Achievement/trophy collecting. This really interest me, and think it would make the games on both systems get much higher replay value. Which one is best, I don’t know.
2. Online play.. I have played MMORPGs for years and years and years and I never played console online. I know everyone says Xbox Live is better but not sure how much better. Since the money issue its kind of important… Not only will I have to pay 60 dollars a year for my gamertag my wife will need one also (Hence 120 dollars a year). We won’t share an online one due to not wanting to mess up each others statistics haha!
3. Good selection of games I can buy and download. I know that Xbox Live offers many original Xbox games. I guess PS3 offers PS1 games but at some point i’ll be getting PSP so can just play PS1 games on it in the future. I don’t know how often each is updated, which has most games, and how well those games are priced.
Finally got to say littlebigplanet, Infamous look really good. I seen video of the littlebigplanet racing game coming up at E3 and it looked amazing (I loved mario kart series, don’t play it online though due to hackers!). God of War 3 though, really doesn’t do it for me.
So there is that, but there is also above three things, cost, etc etc.
So if anyone shed some light I would really appreciate it. As I said once I buy one, thats pretty much it for a long long time.
You like RPGs - especially JRPGs? Get a 360. While Oblivion is on both consoles, the 360 has Fable 2, and Mass Effect (and its sequel coming soon) then the 360 has Star Ocean, and most of Square’s newest titles. Even Final Fantasy XIII and XIV (their new MMO) will be available on the 360 and PS3, so
Quirky Japanese games? Get a 360. You’ve got Katamari, Onechanbara, and others. So far, the PS3 has only managed to field a single exclusive RPG that’s worth playing.
Trophies vs. Achievements? Get a 360. This one is easy. While Sony implemented the Trophy system last year, only a handful of games use it. Older games will never support it, and only "most" of the newer ones will. Meanwhile Achievements are required for all games. Retail games carry 1000 points in achievements, while downloadable games from Arcade carry 200. Many games have extra downloadable content which sometimes adds achievements (and points) for you to acquire.
Online play - Get a 360. Yes, online play for the PS3 is free. However, I’ve personally had problems getting decent speeds from Sony’s PSN and that was just to download a system update, let alone trying to go online for a game. Live is $50 a year per person, but that money is used to actually maintain the network so that it’s usable. If you’re not going to play online, you can still access almost all of Live’s other features and the market place for free. This means you can still see which of your friends are online, and what games they are playing. You can’t do that on Sony’s network. Live also has near-universal support with most games offering some form of online play. The same can’t be said for the PS3’s titles. And Sony seems more interested in making their 3d online-chat room, Home, than getting developers to put online features in their games.

Okay even though I am a Xbox 360 user I would say the Ps3 Because it has blu-ray built in which really inhances the gameplay. And online play is free unlike the Xbox. Although the cost is a bit more it is worth while!
