Should I buy my son a PS3 and GTA IV?
getting him a ps3 is smart. not only are u getting him what he wants but ur getting something that is 'future proof' meaning its gonna be awhile before its even has competition. blu ray is the format of the future, and now that u can download games, tv shows, and movies, surf the net, watch movies, etc., it will only be awhile until ppl say, i need a ps3 for my entertainment needs and will never cease to be satisifed. even though hell be using it, im pretty sure he wouldnt mind letting u watch a movie or two on it : )
now as for him wanting gta4…ive been playing gta since it was first on playstation…for about 8 yrs or so…and ive played all of them. theyre all the same. guns killing drugs money prostitutes etc. many ppl blame the game company for makin the game, some blame the parent…but not alot of ppl have thought of this…how about blaming the kid? its common sense and maturity. even if u have an ounce of it, u wont attempt to carjack someone and ram into a police building and all of a sudden the us army gets involved and shoots u down…
im 19 now…and when i was in school, sports and video games were often talked about… besides girls. gta came out of almost every kids mouth. gta is a good game entertainment-wise but not so much morally. besides even though u speak highly of ur kid…id rather my kid stay inside and play games all day than be outside in an unpredictable world.
long story short…if hes mature enough and u know he wont be dumb enough to pull these moves..get it…ur makin him happy…and thats wat good fathers do.
if ur afraid he might think of stealing a couple hundred dollars off u and running down to a strip club…or making a columbine…get him something else
mgs4, any sports game, uncharted, cod4 (thats really good) gran turismo 5 prologue, motorstorm, resistance…all good alternative choices

No doubt that it will help him socialize… he will discuss talk about this to his friends and all… bying him a PS3 is okay BUT
Don't buy GTA IV it is not for small teens of age 14 minium age should be 18!!

Grand Theft Auto. Just look at the title. It has weapons. It encourages killing and violence. It encourages hooking up with prosititutes and being a pimp. You can kill elderly people. Their are sex shops you can go into and actually look at the "toys". The language is terrible. The whole game is divided into missions where you are a backstabber and you end up killing everyone. When you hook up with a prostitute their is moaning and the screen moves around in an up-down motion. That's just some of the many things that will corrupt his mind if you get this for him. Rated M for mature.
I'd suggest you get him some football games or something. Very much so less of a corrupting game.
yes get him gta 4 im 14 and it is a great game he will really like it but it is a bit violent but a very good game if you go on http://www.gamspot.com and type in gta 4 it got 10 out of 10 it,s a must game for ps3 owners
It's a great game, but it's M (Mature) rated for violence, strong words, blood, alcohol, drugs, stealing, killing. Think twice!
Indeed it will help him socialize. I am also 14 and ever since i got my PS3, its almost the only thing i talk about with my friends and we also play a ton online (Metal Gear solid 4, NCAA 09, Call of Duty 4). Now that the gaming is becoming so much more advanced, it has made it a lot easier to socialize on the PS3. In terms of the game GTA 4, i wouldn't get it unless he's played it and he knows what he's expecting because i have to say that i was extremely disapointed with the game. Personally i would go with the PS3 that includes MGS4. There's no question that its a better game, but it also depends on your sons preferences.
Mr. Happy face up there is a retard…unless your son is overly-impressionable it will be fine. If he's the kind of kid that repeats stuff he hears from friends or movies (curses, etc.) then don't get it for him. Games are no worse than movies so if you'd let him watch an R-Rated movie then this isn't much different. Just put limits on how long he can play it…
Oh and Robin B said that GTAIV was a disappontment…it's not!!! It's awesome! Metal Gear Solid 4 will probably be the disappointment because it's a very unique game in terms of how it's played. I'd go with GTAIV. It's more of a game that you can just pick up and play and have fun.

There is a lot of violence and profanity but seriously.. what 13 -14 year old kid doesn't know any of that? They hear worse things in school but unless your child isn't mature enough for it and think he might change his ways after this game then don't buy him it.
ps3 yes (its a super great system, Worth money), gta4 depends on your sons personality, if he really wants it talk to him and you will probably find the answer.

Yes buy him that it may help him socialize with others who have GTA some may ask for mission help then the next thing you know he's got a friend
Yes, getting him a PS3 is good as it has plenty of good games along with extra features like the Blu Ray player.
However, I'm not so sure about GTA4, it's a pretty graphic game; there's a lot of sexual content, you can basically kill without discretion, but there is an online mode that allows him to play and socialize with his friends.
Talk to your kid about it, and if you think he's mature enough to handle this stuff, then buy it for him.
I think the next best alternative for him would be Metal Gear Solid 4, yes it's M-rated, but it's actually pretty tame. The blood isn't any worse than what you see in PG-13 movies and you have to option to turn it off if you want, it's a really great game, the swearing is minimal, and you and your son can learn a lot from this game if you pay attention; like the basis of wars, why we fight them, it even criticizes how we treat our veterans when they come back. And yes, you can play online
listen here, ur boy need gta iv, he said he wanted ps3 because he only wants to play gta iv, gta iv is rated m, but there is no full nudity and there is no sex scenes, the only thing bad is words and i believe that ur son watches movie so the words will not make a big diffrence, i am like him i and i begged my father to get it for me i am 14, tell him that he will be dissapointent with gta iv , like me , i had alot of hype then when i played it it's short tell him that it's short, please fell free to contact me again have a nice day
ps3 is a great choice the system is on top now out of the 3 i would wait if i was u for september tho since the new ps3 will be released the 80 gb for 400 bucks it is worth the wait since now alot of the 40 gb r getting pulled since there stopping it or some are selling out of them and not getting anymore
