Why doesn’t GTA have a new release every year like other games?

For instance, Call of Duty has a new release once a year since COD2 which was released November 2005 for Xbox 360, COD3 was released November 2006, COD4: MW was released November 2007, COD: WOW was released Novemeber of 2008, and COD: MW2 has a set release date of the "holiday season" of 2009…in other words, it'll probably be released in November as well. Grand Theft Auto on the other hand went like four years from it's release of San Andreas, to GTA IV (referring to main console's only PS2/PS3/Xbox 360/PC). Sure, it had releases on like the PSP and such, but I'm not counting those…why don't they release a new one like every year? I mean, is it that much harder of a game to code and workout the glitches, finalize it, and such?

I don't know…just would like more releases…maybe once every two years would be good. I guess I'm just wondering mostly because I want to know when GTA V will be released…I mean…I really want them to make a new map instead of Liberty City, which I'm sure they will…especially with the two DLC packs for the Xbox 360. I think they really only redid it anyway for the nextgen console…so we could see what Liberty City looked like…and it looked good…but I still want my plane's, bicycle's, and parachute's back. Not to mention tons of other things that were missing. I'm just hoping we won't be waiting until 2012 for the game to get released…anyone happen to know? It'd be awesome if they made it as a launch title for the next Xbox/Playstation…

Well, if you want them to make a new game every year, it would be boring aint it?

If you want it every year, lets round up the possibilities.

1. Not much improvements.
2. Quite the same storyline if the game is rushed.
3. Same graphics.
4. No add-ons.

Well, GTA 4 : LND is an add-on, if you have a release every year, it would be much boring.

If you said GTA4 lost all your favourite things like plane and parachute, you have to keep waiting.

GTA4 for the ps3 is just like GTA2 for the PS1.

Lets see. GTA2 - GTA 3 - GTA : VC - GTA : SA - GTA : VCS - GTA :LCS - GTA 4.

Look how long it took them to have what is now.

So, we have to wait for like GTA 6, to have what we have in GTA : SA.

Don't you want to parachute of nice buildings?

We just have to wait.

Don't compare GTA games with other games.

They won't match at all.

Finished GTA4, now waiting for additions for GTA in PC and PS3.

Take a look comparing GTA and COD.
COD has minor improvements to the gameplay and a new storyline. Aside from that not much.
GTA play GTA 3 then 4. Not only do the graphics look 10x better, there are new options, new storyline, new a lot.
Its all preference, do you want the reward short or long term?
